Strip hidden metadata from images in one right‑click.
Clean Image removes C2PA Content Credentials, EXIF, XMP and IPTC from PNG, JPEG and WebP files. It works locally in your browser, without touching a single pixel.
- No uploads
- Zero quality loss
- No account
Share the picture, not the paperwork.
Images quietly carry where they were taken, which device or app made them, and how they were edited. Clean Image gives you a copy with just the picture.
Private by design
Everything runs inside your browser. Images are never uploaded, and there is no account, analytics or tracking.
Lossless
Pixel data is copied byte for byte. Nothing is decoded or re-compressed, so your image looks exactly the same.
One right-click
Right-click any image and choose “Download clean image”. Or drop a whole batch of files on the cleaner page.
See what was removed
The cleaner page lists every block it stripped, with sizes, and who signed the Content Credentials.
How it works
No settings to learn. Install it once and it is there whenever you need it.
Add Clean Image to Chrome
Install it from the Chrome Web Store. No sign-up, nothing to configure.
Right-click an image
Choose “Download clean image”. A cleaned copy is saved to your Downloads folder.
Or clean files in bulk
Click the toolbar icon, drop as many PNG, JPEG or WebP files as you like, then download each clean copy.
What gets removed, and what stays
Clean Image only drops data that is not needed to display the image.

Questions
Does cleaning reduce image quality?
No. Clean Image never decodes or re-compresses your image. It removes metadata blocks and copies the pixel data exactly as it was.
Are my images uploaded anywhere?
No. All processing happens inside your browser. The extension has no server, no analytics and no remote code.
Which formats are supported?
PNG (including animated PNG), JPEG and WebP. Other formats such as GIF, AVIF and HEIC are not supported yet.
What are Content Credentials (C2PA)?
An open standard for attaching signed information to media: which app created or edited a file, what was done to it, and when. Cameras, editing apps and AI image tools increasingly add it to the files they produce.
Does it remove invisible watermarks?
No. Clean Image removes metadata stored next to the pixels. Watermarks embedded in the pixels themselves are not changed.
Should I remove Content Credentials from AI-generated images?
Some platforms and laws require AI-generated or edited content to be labeled. Removing metadata doesn't change those obligations, so please follow the rules of wherever you publish.
Why did right-click open the drop page instead?
Some sites don't let scripts download their images again. Save the image the usual way, then drop it onto the Clean Image page.
What permissions does it need?
contextMenus to add the right-click item, and activeTab + scripting to read the image you clicked. It can't see any page until you choose “Download clean image” on it.
